iCana launches RF front-end reference design with Analog Devices ADRV9029 RF Transceiver Platform for indoor small cells

iCana introduces the 5G NR FR1 RF front-end reference design with Analog Devices fabricated for indoor small cells. The RF front-end is connected to Analog Devices ADRV9029 RF Transceiver Platform, demonstrating iCana’s product line-up with great performance, power efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

By leveraging the strengths of iCana and Analog Devices, we cooperate to provide a complete solution for cellular infrastructure applications. Analog Devices ADRV9029 is a highly integrated RF agile transceiver that offers independently controlled transmitters and receivers, dedicated observation receiver inputs, synthesizers, and digital signal processing functions.

The ADRV9029 platform is connected to iCana’s 4T4R FR1 reference board, which includes Power Amplifier, Differential Gain Amplifier, and Receiver Front-End Module.

ARQSP3336-4 ARQSP3336-4 3.3–3.6 GHz 4W High-Efficiency Power Amplifier providing 28 dBm average output power with excellent compatibility for digital pre-distortion (DPD) linearization, high efficiency, and strong ruggedness handling up to 10:1 VSWR output mismatch.
ARQSF2442-RX-A ARQSF2442-RX-A 2.4–4.2 GHz Dual-Channel Receiver Front-End Module combining a high-power handling Switch and a Low Noise Amplifier with bypass function in a dual channel configuration. The FEM delivers a low noise figure < 1.5 dB, 37/16 dB Gain, and high channel isolation while minimize the footprint to a 6x6 mm2 package.
ICASD3338-D2S ICASD3338-D2S 3.3–3.8 GHz Differential to Single-Ended Gain Amplifier and ICASD3338-S2D 3.3–3.8 GHz Single-Ended to Differential Gain Amplifier. The gain amplifiers combine a balun and a low noise gain stage in a small 2x2 mm2 footprint to provide a high and flat gain of > 17 dB, high linearity > 30 dBm, and low noise figure.

The hardware performance is verified by using the standard 5G NR FR1 signal. Equipped with standard RF connectors, the RF Front-End board can easily connect with antennas or standard instruments for easy validation. The performance is summarized below:

  • Transmit mode, auto gain control settings for high gain receive mode, and low gain receive mode
  • Instantaneous bandwidth > 100 MHz
  • Transmit output power >24 dBm achieving ACLR <-50 dBc based on 100 MHz waveform of 5G NR TM 3.1, 8.5 dB PAR, with the use of Analog Devices DPD linearization
  • Error Vector Magnitude (EVM): <2%

The reference design of iCana’s 4T4R FR1 reference board and Analog Devices RF Transceiver Platform help lower the barrier of 5G small cell deployments. It offers a new solution with superior performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for customers.

The live demo of the reference design will be presented at EuMW 2023 in Messe Berlin Hub 27 #Booth 546C. SCHEDULE A MEETING with us to learn more about it. Click HERE for more information. See you there!
